Leadership Opportunities & Volunteering

Are you between 13 and 15 years old and enjoy engaging with children? Do you aspire to be a camp counsellor one day? BHDC’s Leader-In-Training (LIT) program could be the perfect opportunity for you!

This two-week program is designed for teens ages 13 to 15 who are eager to develop leadership skills, gain hands-on experience with children and make a positive impact at camp! This exciting program provides the perfect blend of personal growth and practical training, preparing LITs for future roles as camp counsellors or community leaders.

Over the course of two weeks, you will participate in a variety of interactive leadership development workshops, focusing on life-long skills such as communication, collaboration, problem solving and conflict resolution. You will also spend 20 hours alongside camp staff to observe leadership in action, and engage in hands-on learning by assisting campers in games, crafts and activities. The 20 hours are eligible for your high school volunteer hours.

After completing the LIT program, you can apply to be a full-time volunteer in future weeks at BHDC!

If you were a volunteer with us in 2024, we encourage you to consider joining the LIT program. Developing your skills as a leader is an ongoing project! If you are not able to join the two-week LIT Program, you may apply to return as a volunteer.

The application process requires the completion of a Volunteer Application Form and an interview, and feedback from your participation last summer will be considered. Please note that only 2024 volunteers who are not able to participate in the LIT program will be considered. If you have not previously been a volunteer with us, you do need to complete the LIT Program before being eligible to apply for a volunteer position in Camps at BHDC.

If you are not able to participate in the LIT program, please send an email to our Camp Director, Megan Snape (msnape@branksome.on.ca) to provide further details. There may be opportunities to volunteer during our lunch hours. Volunteering in camp programming is reserved for those who have completed the LIT program.
